I just received an email from my friend Andy Jack. He lives in Illinois, and his house was just hit by a tornado. He and his family are fine, but their house was banged up pretty good. There’s a lot of repair work that needs to be done, and his youth group kickoff is just around the corner. He’s the junior high guy for a very large group of kids, which means there’s a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. Please be praying for Andy, his wife Kathy and their daughter Emma.
Reading about Andy’s experience brought back memories of the tornado that hit my town back in 1991. It was crazy, an F4 I think, and it wiped out a good chunk of the town. We were in the basement as it passed overhead, and crawled out of the debris to find the whole neighborhood destroyed. I was in the 7th grade, and I remember seeing my first dead body that night as they pulled a woman out of the rubble across the way from where I lived. It was a wild year, living in an apartment while our house was rebuilt. It’s still trippy to think that there aren’t many pictures of my brother and I as kids because of the tornado. Guess it’s not a good idea to store stuff like that in a closet upstairs when you live in Kansas.
I’m not sure how bad the tornado was that hit Andy’s town, but please pray for the people who suffered loss through it. It can be a strange and stressful ordeal, if not worse. Also please do be praying for Andy, his family, and his youth ministry.
